Godot for Unity Devs: Materials

This video covers Godot's StandardMaterial3D and the WorldEnvironment node, recreating a Unity scene's look (materials, lighting, sky, fog, and ambient occlusion) directly in Godot. We build three materials side by side with Unity counterparts: a basic glossy red, a metallic gold, and an emissive glowing material. Along the way we cover how albedo, metallic, and roughness map onto Unity's smoothness model, why emission needs the WorldEnvironment's glow turned on (Godot's name for bloom), and a few features that Godot bakes into its default material that Unity doesn't, like rim lighting and material overlays. Then we set up the environment from scratch: a DirectionalLight3D with shadows, a WorldEnvironment node with a procedural skybox, environment lighting and reflections, distance fog, volumetric fog that interacts with the directional light, and SSAO. By the end the Godot scene matches the Unity reference, and you have a clear map between the two engines' lighting systems.
