Can a programmer with questionable art skills actually create a decent 3D asset pack? In this video, I put Stove to the test by creating a modular castle asset pack from scratch. Stove is designed specifically for fast game asset creation, with a streamlined workflow for low poly, retro, stylized, and hand painted 3D models.
We model a castle watchtower, modular wall, and flag, then texture everything using automatic UV generation, gradients, masks, pixelation, ambient occlusion, mirrored painting, randomized brushes, and automatic edge painting. The goal is to see how far a programmer can get without dealing with the traditional complexity of materials and UV mapping, while still producing assets ready to export into Unity, Unreal, Godot, Cave, or another game engine.
