Making games without AI can still be surprisingly fast when you have the right tools. In this video, I return to Cave Engine, my lightweight 3D game engine built in C++ with Python scripting and Visual Scripting, to show how I would solve a real problem from a Cave user without writing traditional code. The example is a watchtower that continuously rotates left and right, and I build the entire behavior using Cave’s Logic Bricks, its visual scripting system with direct parity with the Python API and no compilation time.
Starting from a simple rotating object, I add variables, a Delay node, a Flip-Flop to alternate directions, and eventually randomized timing so the watchtower behaves less predictably. I also explain how Cave lets you inspect the logic running live, the difference between Delay and Schedule nodes, and how simple visual scripting blocks can be combined into more complex game mechanics. At the end, I talk about the future of AI in game development, why I think handcrafted work may become even more valuable, and why I still want to build tools that let artists and indie developers create games without depending on AI.
