Blender was not always the 3D creation suite people know today. In its early commercial era under Not a Number, Blender was heavily positioned around interactive 3D, real-time content and game creation. In this video, I react to an old official Blender commercial and show how strongly those ideas were embedded in Blender’s original direction.
We also look at Blender Publisher, Game Blender, real-time playback, physics, game distribution, PlayStation support and even Not a Number’s plans for online game services. The video also includes my old Blender 2.25 Publisher license story and a 2018 email exchange with Ton Roosendaal. It is a fascinating look at a very different chapter of Blender’s history and its roots in interactive 3D and game development.
